Going through the different discussions and reading the forums I found that a lot of people wish to keep Office 2007 or office 2003 or office XP with parallel to office 2010. This is because a lot of new feature on office 2010 and they are feeling uneasy to adopt with the newer technology……the condition is like…they are not able to throw the old technology coz they are master of it and they need new technology but they are not able to adopt it completely. So the people wishes to keep both of them…
Here going through the different website I found the solution and trying to share on my blog.
To installing of both version of Office, Office 2010 and Office 2007 or even Office 2003 or Office XP side by side together in parallel, Office 2010 has to be installed different directory or folder, so that existing Office 2007 program files don’t get overwritten. To do so use the following trick to install Office 2010 in addition to Office 2007 so that both applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, OneNote, SharePoint and etc can be run simultaneously and concurrently.
1. Run Office 2010 installation wizard. Select Customize when prompted to choose the preferred type of Office 2010 installation of either “Upgrade” or “Customize”.
2. Click Browse and select another installation folder path for Office 2010 which is not the same with existing Office installation path. For example, C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 2010\.
3. The setup will install Office 2010 and retain Office 2007 and any other older versions of Office apps
Note: Once Office 2010 is installed, the default program for Office documents, spreadsheets, presentations and other files will be defaulted to Office 2010, but it can be changed manually in Control Panel. A simpler way is to re-run Office 2007 Setup.exe setup wizard, and allow it to repair Office 2007 installation.
Also note that although both Office 2010 and Office 2007 can exist parallel, Outlook 2007 and Outlook 2010 apparently not. Only one version of Outlook can be installed at any time. Thus, Outlook 2007 will be uninstalled and leaving only Outlook 2010.
Also for those End-User who want to install Office 2010 without uninstalling the Office 2007, I do have a better solution. here you can download config.MSP for installing Office 2010 without uninstalling or removing Office 2007.
To use the config.MSP to install Office 2007 and keep Office 2007 side by side (not uninstalling Office 2007), copy the downloaded config.MSP to the folder that contains Setup.exe and other installation files for Office 2010, and the run the following command in that folder in an elevated command prompt window (or in Start Search or Run command box).

I have been playing with windows 7 when the pre-beta version of windows 7 had been released. I was so happy to see the different new feature on the windows 7 in respect to the older version of operating system, and performance was awesome…….I too was surprised to learn hidden control panel applets of windows 7 as well in Windows Vista. I didn’t knew it before until I read some article related to regedit on windows7 and Windows Vista. Here sharing my experience on the hidden applets of the control panel in windows 7 and Windows Vista.
There are some hidden applet in the windows 7 and Windows Vista that are default hidden….don’t know why…but some of them are really useful the beginner and expert too. so Here I am providing the tutorial how to access these hidden applet of control panel.
- Get to RUN—> type REGEDIT and press Return…….(Ctrl+R gives the run window)
- Now go the this branch of the regedit…..
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Control Panel\don’t load - Here the Snapshot of that portion of the Window….just click on the don’t load and see the control panel entries on the ride-side of the pane.
- Simple deleting the ‘don’t load’ key will revile all the hidden apps….but there are some apps that already exists on the control panel….and that might be appear double in your control panel…so I suggest you to try with deleting those apps those are not in your control panel. like
hdwwiz.cpl
appwiz.cpl
ncpa.cpl
sysdm.cpl
desk.cpl
joy.cpl
Firewall.cpl
collab.cpl
irprops.cpl
tabletpc.cpl
bthprops.cpl
infocardcpl.cpl
Those were the steps for reveling the hidden apps of control panel in Windows 7 and Windows Vista.it is easily adopted on the Windows vista….but in case of the Windows 7 you have to take a permission as security is upgraded then of vista….you can’t work on this key unless you get permission. Here is the procedure how to get the permission.
- Right-click on the "don't load" key and select "Permissions...".
- It'll open a dialog box, Click on "Advanced" button.
- It'll open another dialog box, Go to "Owner" tab.
- Select your Username from the list and click on "Apply" button and then OK.
- Again click on OK button in the first dialog box.
- Now again right-click on the same key and select "Permissions...".
- Select your Username in the list and check the "Allow" option for "Full Control".
- Click on Apply button and then OK.
I think you guys will enjoy this trick….
Warning!!!!
NOTE:- Please make the backup of Registry whenever you make tweak on it.
