Mobile Phone Applications and Settings
Have you ever realized about the potential of the device you carry in your pocket ? May be some of us have realized and some of us have not yet. Yes, I am talking about the mobile phones that you carry for your daily communication with your friends , family and work. Is it just a phone that we carry ? Well its not just a phone its the complete pc these days. A small mobile phone which supports java application is very powerful when it is plugged in with appropriate application.
I guess internet is the most essential part of our life these days without which we don’t seem to communicate to the world. It is not necessary that everyone will have an internet connection every second, where ever they go and when ever they go. That’s where these mobile phones can play vital roll to make us communicate with the digital world.
WAP is short form for The Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) which is an open, secure global specification that empowers mobile users with wireless devices to easily access and interact with information and services instantly.
GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) is a method of enhancing 2G phones to enable them to send and receive data more rapidly. With a GPRS connection, the phone is "always on" and can transfer data immediately, and at higher speeds: typically 32 - 48 kbps. An additional benefit is that data can be transferred at the same time as making a voice call. GPRS is now available with Mero Mobile.
EDGE (Enhanced Data rates for GSM Evolution) or EGPRS provides data transfer rates significantly faster than GPRS. EDGE increases the speed of each timeslot to 48 kbps and allows the use of up to 8 timeslots, giving a maximum data transfer rate of 384 kbps. In places where an EDGE network is not available, GPRS will automatically be used instead. EDGE offers the best that can be achieved with a 2.5G network.
In the context of NEPAL, previously our service provider didn’t facilitated us with the the EDGE and GPRS services. But today, the service provider are offering us internet and very low cost and really good quality required for a cell phone. Nepal telecom has recently added GPRS service for its prepaid mobile phones and Spicenepal Pvt. Ltd has been doing it from the time of its establishment and really providing good bandwidth. The point I want to mention here is that, we are not lacking behind for the service now and we have equally good service as the other countries have and we can use it for our benefit.
The confusion arrives, about which application to use and how to use the application. Facebook – The world’s largest social network can be accessed from your mobile phone if you have mobile phone that support web browsing not even a java supported application. All you need to browse is http://m.facebook.com on your cell phone browser and you will be directed to the website which is specially designed for mobile phones to use facebook. You can share your thoughts, upload and see pictures play games on your phone from any place any time. Many of us use Instant Messaging frequently in our life to communicate and it is very easy to use messengers on your mobile phones as well.If you have a java supported mobile phone you can use cool application like Nimbuzz, Mig33, Morange, Windows Live messenger,Yamee, Y2go, Rocket talk etc are really good application that you can look for.
If you are confused with the configuration of GPRS in Nepal have a look below
