Windows 7

The progress Microsoft has made with Windows 7 in terms of usability and functionality is an undeniable fact. Only at the taskbar level the improvements are notable: jumplists, thumbnail preview, icon-like windows, pining option or rearranging of the tasks. Moving over to window management, Windows 7 introduces AeroShake to clear the desktop and AeroSnap to resize and compare windows on the desktop.
Although there are users unconvinced by these features, many have changed their standard of how an operating system should behave and the options it should include. And for the latter category all the aforementioned features represent only the beginning because there is still plenty of room to develop functionality and usability of the desktop to new levels.
Preme for Windows 7 extends the default desktop functionality of the operating system to new limits, and by that I mean that it delivers a set of options that can help you better manage the windows on your desktop. It is a freebie released recently and compiled withAuto Hotkey. There is no proper interface available, only a screen displaying the options, which also lets you enable the various actions available. This window presents all the options and, more important, the effect each enabled option has on the system.
The program provides a total of seven new shortcuts for different actions in Windows 7. You have the possibility to change the way Flip 3D or Task Switcher are accessed and instead of using the keyboard you can simply move your mouse to the upper left or right corner of the desktop. Depending on which of these corners you assign this action, the behavior on the other when touched with the mouse will be to hide the active window.

Hiding the active window

this way comes in handy if the active window is the only obstacle for viewing the screen behind it. With Preme the action is almost instantaneous, as opposed to previewing from Windows thumbnails, which take a tad longer.
A very cool function is called “Touch Slide Window”, which causes application screens to slide to the side (left or right part of the desktop screen) and hide when clicked right under the minimize, restore and close buttons. The windows will just skip to the side and become visible only when touching the edge of the desktop with the mouse. The beautiful part is that even docked, the windows are fully functional, this is to say that you can work in these screens and once you take the mouse outside its borders it’ll automatically skid to the side.
The title bar has been awarded triple functionality by the developer of Preme, depending on mouse action. Keeping the cursor on this part of the window and scrolling down will automatically minimize it to the taskbar. If you press the mouse wheel the effect will be to close the active window (also, double tap ESC key to the same effect). The third behavior occurs when you click the titlebar and hold your click for a second: the effect is that the window will be on top of all other screens. When trying this we noticed that the window blinks both when enabling the behavior as well as when disabling it.
These are the most important and interesting actions available in Preme, but not all of them. The application offers a fast way to access Start menu by simply getting your mouse to the lower left corner of the desktop. There isn’t any difference from the regular method of access except for the fact that you no longer have to click the Start button.
By default, right clicking on the taskbar buttons should automatically place the cursor on the Close option. However, during our tests this option worked sporadically. It often happened to see it in action at one moment and the next to fail completely, despite the same application window being involved.
Some sort of configuration is present in the lower part of the screen, under the “More” drop-down menu. It lets you enable full-screen detection, and configure the effect of taking the mouse to the upper left/right corner.
How each action works and how you can be activated is pretty much covered for all of the options present in the application. What you may have trouble understanding from the first glance on Preme’s configuration window is the “Touch Slide Window” function. The graphical representation may be sufficient for some, but just to make sure you got it right I suggest you click on “How?” button for a live tutorial. For the few seconds the tutorial runs you will not have full control over your computer, which may not be appreciated by the users.
Preme for Windows 7 is not stuffed to the brim with options, but it offers some interesting choices for handling the windows on the desktop. Either dock them to the side, place the one that interests you the most on top of all the others or minimize it with a scroll on the title bar, these are functions a user can easily grow dependent on.
The Good
No installation is required, just click on the executable and you’re good to go; it automatically starts with Windows and requires no other configuration than enabling/disabling actions to be triggered by mouse movement.
The Bad
When sliding to the side you can dock there isn’t room for more than two windows (one to the right and one to the left). “Cursor Up” option did not work properly in our case.
The Truth
Preme is no complicated application, but it tackles some interesting desktop functionality options users can easily benefit with no effort. Sliding windows to the left/right edge of the desktop is quite a handy substitute for temporarily minimizing the window to taskbar.
Though in early development stage and sporting simple options, Preme works like a charm and adds functionality to your Windows 7 desktop.

Download OVI Applications from your Computer

Hello, As you guys probably noticed, you can only download stuff from Ovi store when you are browsing through your phone, it wont give a download option if you're doing the browsing from your pc.

Nokia_OVi_Store_LogoThe main concept behind all this is the mobile browser detected by the OVI store. If we can open our Internet Browser in such a way that it behave like a mobile browser than we can fool the OVI store. Here is how to do it.

1.Open Mozilla Firefox

2.Go to plugins and search for “User Agent Plugins” and than download the plugin and install it, let the browser restart again.

3.Now you need to know the following about your device.

a)OS :Example SymbianOS/9.4; U;

b)Mobile Series : Example, Series60/5.0

c)Model :Nokia5800d-1/21.0.025

d)MIDP Version: Example, Profile/MIDP-2.1 Configuration/CLDC-1.1

the above information can be collected from Nokia’s website from device details.

4.Now put the information in a text file in the format “Mozilla/5.0 (SymbianOS/9.4; U; Series60/5.0 Nokia5800d-1/21.0.025; Profile/MIDP-2.1 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 ) AppleWebKit/413 (KHTML, like Gecko) Safari/413” and save it as .xml

5.Go to the options of Mozilla Firefox and under Default User Agent go to Edit User Agent and the Import the .xml file from the location you have saved it.

uer

6.Now open http://store.ovi.mobi/ and download what ever you want.

7. Your Download may be sis.dm file or jad file, the conversion is easy, here is how to do it.

I) For sis.dm file just open the sis.dm file with Notepad++ and delete the first four line and the last line and now save as the file .sis and install it on your mobile phone.sissis1

II) For the j.ad file, go to the .jad file and open it with Notepad++ and see for the MIDlet-Jar-URL: copy the url and paste it on your browser you will get the jar file.jad

So now you see how easy it is to get the applications from your pc.

Hack a Wireless Network

I always use to wonder how this hackers crack in to wireless network and get access to internet through others network.

This is not a smartness of a Hacker rather than its the mistake of a user to keep the security type to WEP (Wireless Equivalent Privacy ).Before going in to the topic, i would suggest you to use it for knowledge and not for cracking in to others network.

This is how we do it.

1.Go to http://backtrack-linux.org website and in the download tad download the file named backtrack4.iso.

2.now burn the (iso) file in to a DVD and restart your computer.

3. Boot your computer through DVD and type “startx’ and enter when you see a blue command in the console.

4.Now wait for the Interface to start.

5. When you have the Interface started go to the console and type” /etc/init.d/networking start”

6. Now to learn the name of your Wireless Card type “airmon-ng” and you will know the name of your wireless card.

7.Now type“airmon-ng stop Wireless Card Name” (which you have noted).

8.Now type“airmon-ng start Wireless Card Name” (which you have noted).

9.again type “airmon-ng”

10.Now type“airdump-ng start Wireless Card Name” (which you have noted).

You will see all the wireless networks on your range, now see the WEP type security and note down its channel, bssid, essid note them and press Ctrl + C.

11. Now type“airodump –ng- w wep –c channel number – bssid bssid number wireless card name”

12. Open  a new Console now

12.a Type “airplay-ng –10- -a bssid wirless card name “

Now you are connected to the Wireless Network.

13. Open a New Console again.

13a. type “airplay –ng –3 –b bssid wirelss card name”

go to the first console(1)

you will c that you have started sending a receiving data from the wireless network when the packets reach 30000.

See the 2nd console (12)

press Ctrl + C.

type “dir”

and locate a file name with extension .cpp andnote the file name

now type aircrac-ng filename(that you noted).cpp

you will see the WEP key on the screen.

restart your computer and eject the DVD and login to your OS and type the WEP key and get the access to the wireless network

I tried this on my own router.

Use Windows 7 for a year without activation

Most of you might be aware of the fact that it is possible to use Windows 7 and Vista for 120 days without activation. This is actually possible using the “slmgr –rearm” command which will extend the grace period from 30 days to 120 days. However in this post I will show you a small trick using which it is possible to use Windows 7 without activation for approximately an year! Here is a way to do that.

1. Goto “Start Menu -> All Programs -> Accessories” . Right click on “Command Prompt” and select “Run as Administrator“. If you are not the administrator then you are prompted to enter the password, or else you can proceed to step-2.

2. Now type the following command and hit enter

slmgr -rearm
3. You will be prompted to restart the computer. Once restarted the trial period will be once again reset to 30 days. You can use the above command for up to 3 times by which you can extend the trial period to 120 days without activation.

4. Now comes the actual trick by which you can extend the trial period for another 240 days. Open Registry Editor (type regedit in “Run” and hit Enter) and navigate to the following location
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\SoftwareProtectionPlatform

5. In right-side pane, change value of SkipRearm to 1.
6. Now you will be able to use the slmgr -rearm command for another 8 times so that you can skip activation process for another 240 days. So you will get 120 + 240 = 360 days of free Windows 7 usage.

120 days using “slmgr -rearm” command before registry edit
+ 240 days using “slmgr -rearm” command after registry edit  = 360 Days

Enjoy :)

Complex IM Worm Infects Yahoo! Messenger and Skype Users

Security researchers warn that a new worm is targeting instant messaging users. Spotted on Yahoo! Messenger (YM) and Skype, the attacks use sophisticated social engineering techniques to trick users into infecting themselves.

t certainly looks like IM worms are making a comeback on the threat landscape, as this is the second malware of this kind to emerge in under a week. Just this Monday, the online community was abuzz with news of a worm rapidly spreading through Yahoo! Messenger. The threat was so serious that BitDefender saw fit to release a standalone removal tool.

Worm description :

The Worm.P2P.Palevo.DP spreads automatically through spam using instant messaging platforms. It sends a message asking users to save a JPG file. The file is in fact the Worm.P2P.Palevo.DP itself. When the file is launched a virus will infect the host.
The worm creates four hidden files in Windows directory:
%Windir%\infocard.exe
%Windir%\mds.sys
%Windir%\mdt.sys
%Windir%\winbrd.jpg
Then it modifies a few registry keys to deactivate the firewall:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\ [Firewall Administrating = "%Windir%\infocard.exe"] KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Terminal Server\Install\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\ [Firewall Administrating = "%Windir%\infocard.exe"] HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\ [Firewall Administrating = "%Windir%\infocard.exe"]
Using this tool you will be able to remove the Worm.P2P.Palevo.DP from your system, if infected.

The link for the remover tool is:http://www.softpedia.com/get/Antivirus/Anti-Worm-Palevo.shtml

The messages used to lure potential victims are more enticing and variate with each attack. "Does my new hair style look good? bad? Perfect? ;)" or "My printer is about to be thrown through a window if this pic won't come our right. You see anything wrong with it?" are just two examples. Also, the spammed image URLs end in actual .JPG and point to a RapidShare lookalike website called tinyfilehost.com.
Hitting the download button on the page prompts the download of an archive file called NewPhoto024.JPG.zip. Inside the archive, there is a .COM MS-DOS executable file deceptively called NewPhoto024.JPG_www.tinyfilehost.com, which installs a variant of a backdoor named Tofsee, Flot or Skyhoo, depending on antivirus vendor.
Bkis points out that while Skyhoo installs an IRC botnet client, just as Ymfocard, the new worm is much more complex. For one, it is able to block antivirus software from functioning properly and uses a rootkit component to hide itself. Moreover, it also adds malicious links to any Word and Excel document opened on the computer or any email composed in Outlook. It also infects removable USB drives and creates an autorun.inf file to execute itself.
YM and Skype users are advised to exercise increased caution when choosing to open links received from their friends and, as always, connect to the Internet with a capable and up-to-date antivirus product installed. At the time of writing this article, only 13 out of 41 AV engines on VirusTotal detect the .COM file as being infected.

How to Try the New Google Search

Confirmed. The rumors about Google's redesign are true, and you can try it for yourself with a very simple method.

1. Go to Google.com.

2. Once it loads, enter this code into your web browser's URL address field:

javascript:void(document.cookie="PREF=ID=20b6e4c2f44943bb:U=4bf292d46faad806:TM=1249677602:LM=1257919388:S=odm0Ys-53ZueXfZG;path=/; domain=.google.com");

There shouldn't be any http://google.com in front of that. Just that code.

3. Hit enter.
4. Reload or open a new Google.com page and you will have access to the new user interface.

It's fast and sweet, although the changes don't affect all the available sections.

Windows 7 first look clinic

Windows 7 has been making headlines for a few months now. If you've read one or two of the stories and reviews dedicated to it, you might think that you know about all that it contains: new touch screen features, a revamped taskbar with larger thumbnail previews, Internet Explorer 8, easier networking and so on.

While that sounds reasonable enough, it's not exactly exciting. It might even have given you the impression that Windows 7 isn't very different from Vista. That assumption, however, would be a mistake.

The reality is that Windows 7 is packed with new developments – it's just that most people aren't talking about them.

Would you like to be able to defrag multiple hard drives at the same time, or create a sandboxed PC user account for your kids so that they won't be able to mess up your Windows or program settings any more?

What about working with – and even booting from – virtual hard drive (VHD) files, the ability to encrypt USB flash drives to protect the data you're carrying, and tools for calibrating your display to ensure that you're seeing accurate colors and crisp, clear text? Windows 7 has all these features, and a whole lot more.

Security

1. Keep your PC clean

If you share your PC with less experienced computer users then you'll know the problems that can arise as they mess up your settings and unknowingly install dodgy software. Windows 7 can help you to avoid these problems.

Enable PC Safeguard on the kids' account and they'll be able to log on and play as normal – but when they log off , any settings they've changed are reversed, files they've saved are deleted and your hard drive is returned to its original state.

2. Restrict other users

If Safeguard isn't enough, try AppLocker. It gives you even more control, restricting users to only the programs you specify. It's able to automatically create rules for your installed programs, and other rules can be added in seconds.

3. Action Center

Windows 7 replaces the Security Center with the more all-purpose Action Center, which warns you of PC maintenance and back-up issues as well as potential security problems. It's prone to complaining if your security settings don't meet its approval, but at least now there's an effective solution.

If you regularly see messages telling you that you've turned the Windows firewall off , say, then you can choose to disable just those while leaving the more useful alerts active.

4. Tone down UAC

User Account Control irritated many Windows Vista users with its constant warnings that 'Windows needs your permission to continue'. Windows 7 improves the situation by displaying fewer warnings and providing additional UAC tweaks.

Tell the system not to raise warnings if you change Windows settings and you'll be able to use the Control Panel without any prompts. Alerts will only appear if a program tries to perform a similar action.

5. BitLocker to go

Encryption isn't just for hard drives anymore: the Windows 7 version of BitLocker can protect removable (and easily lost) devices such as USB flash drives, too.

Right-click the device in Explorer, select 'Turn on BitLocker' and then enter and confirm a password to protect your data from snoopers.

6. 'Run as' returns

Right-click a program in Windows XP and you'll see a 'Run as' option that allows you to run the program as a different user. This is very useful if you'd like to run an app that requires different privileges to your current account.

The option disappeared in Vista, but Microsoft has relented: hold down [Shift] while right-clicking a shortcut and you'll see that the 'Run as' option has returned.

7. Find and fix problems

Windows has always had plenty of troubleshooting tools, but they've been scattered around many different places. Windows 7 brings order to this situation by placing all of the most important troubleshooters in the new Find and Fix Problems applet, located in the Control Panel.

These fix common problems, check for incorrect settings, clean up your PC and more. Developers can create additional troubleshooters, too. You can read more about that at Within Windows.

8. The Problem Steps Recorder

As a knowledgeable PC user, it's likely that you're called upon to troubleshoot friends' computer problems, which can be tricky if they find it difficult to describe what's going on. Windows 7 has a handy tool to solve this problem.

If an application is misbehaving under Windows 7, all the flummoxed PC user needs to do is launch the Problem Steps Recorder, click 'Record' and work through whatever task they're trying to complete.

Every click and keypress that they make will be recorded, packaged up with screen grabs and saved into a single zipped MHTML file, ready for emailing to you. It's a simple tool that's going to save many people hours of time.

9. Extended System Restore functionality

System Restore has always been a very handy troubleshooting tool, and Windows 7 extends it in a couple of useful ways. A single click will now tell you exactly which programs and drivers will be restored or deleted if you choose a particular restore point, and there's now an interface that lets you configure the amount of disk space allocated to System Restore.

You can also decide not to back up Windows settings. This means that only files will be backed up, so you'll be able to squeeze more restore points into the available disk space.

10. Discover bottlenecks

If your Windows 7 PC seems sluggish, the new and extended Resource Monitor should help you to sort things out. It's like a more powerful version of Task Manager that not only shows you the processes running on your PC, but also reveals how they're using your CPU, RAM, hard drive and network.

A couple of clicks can show you who the biggest resource hogs really are.

11. DIY system discs

Windows 7 includes a new option to burn a bootable system repair disc. If your PC won't start, pop in the repair disc and it'll do its best to restore normal operations. There's no new technology involved – it's just a CD version of the Start-up Repair tools on your Windows Vista disc – but this functionality will be useful for people who never get a full Windows 7 DVD.

It's also safer to carry one of these around with your laptop rather than risk damaging or losing your original Windows disc.

12. Faster IE startups

Some heavyweight Internet Explorer add-ons can take a while to start. IE8 can help you spot the worst off enders.

Click 'Tools | Manage Add-ons', peruse the Load Time column and you'll immediately see which extensions are putting a brake on your browsing.

13. Simultaneous disk defrags

Ever wondered why you can't defrag both your hard drives at the same time? There's no reason why not – and now in Windows 7 you can through the command-line defrag tool. Other new switches run the defrag at a higher priority and provide regular progress reports. Enter 'defrag /?' in a command-line window to fi nd out more.

14. Multithreaded Robocopies

The command-line Robocopy tool also sees new optimisations, including an '/MT' switch that can improve performance by carrying out multithreaded copies (you can specify up to 128 threads).

Enter 'robocopy/?' at the command line for the full details, though Robocopy newbies should be aware that there are an enormous number of switches to examine.

15. Search connectors

Windows 7 adds support for search connectors. These are small configuration files that extend the Windows Search tool to include online resources. To add Flicker support, for example, visit http://redirectingat.com/?id=92X363&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.istartedsomething.com%2F20081120%2Fflickr-search-connectr-for-windows-7-search-federation%2F search to download and open the connector.

This will add a Flicker Search option to your Searches folder, and you'll be able to search the site from within Explorer.

Administrator :- Enable and Disable

Many friends ask me why there is no built-in Administrator account available in Windows Vista and 7 like previous Windows versions? Why can't we use the default Administrator account? The answer is "Yes! The default Administrator account is created in Vista and 7 but its disabled by default for security purposes."

You might want to enable it for troubleshooting or to get rid of the annoying UAC prompts while tweaking your system. So here I'll describe a few methods to enable / activate the hidden Administrator account in Windows Vista and 7:

1st Method:

1. Right-click on My Computer icon on Desktop and select "Manage", it'll open "Computer Management" window. ( You can also open it by giving "compmgmt.msc" command in RUN dialog box or Startmenu Search box).

2. Goto "Local Users and Groups -> Users". In right-side pane double-click on "Administrator" account. It'll open its Properties. Deselect "Account is disabled" option and Apply it.

2nd Method:

1. Type "secpol.msc" in RUN dialog box or Startmenu search box, it'll open "Local Security Policy" window.

2. Goto "Local Policies -> Security Options".

3. Double-click on first option "Accounts: Administrator account status" and select "Enabled" and apply it.

3rd Method:

1. Click on “Start button -> All Programs -> Accessories“. Right-click on “Command Prompt” and select “Run As Administrator“. If you are prompted to enter password, enter the password and continue. You can also open Command Prompt in Administrator mode by typing “cmd” in Startmenu Search box and press “Ctrl+Shift+Enter“.

2. Now provide following command:

net user administrator /active:yes

3. Thats it. The Administrator account will be enabled. If you want to disable it again, simply replace "yes" with "no" in above command.

NOTE: Never activate the hidden Administrator account until required. Its better to use other general accounts for better security. Also the Administrator account has no password, so if you enable it then don't forget to set a strong password for it.

Difference between 64 bit processors, Operating System and 32 bit processors, Operating Systems

Difference Between Processors Mathematically

First, I’ll talk about the pure mathematics and structure of the processors that are involved here. I’ll keep this part short and sweet.

A bit is short for “binary digit.” It is basically how a computer stores and makes references to data, memory, etc. A bit can have a value of 1 or 0, that’s it. So binary code is streams of 1’s and 0’s, such as this random sequence 100100100111. These bits are also how your processor does calculations. By using 32 bits your processor can represent numbers from 0 to 4,294,967,295 while a 64-bit machine can represent numbers from 0 to 18,446,744,073,709,551,615. Obviously this means your computer can do math with larger numbers, and be more efficient with smaller numbers.

Another way to explain mathematically may be The word "bit" refers to the way computers deal with information in binary, where all data is listed as a string of digits which can either be a 0 or a 1. Each of these digits is known as one bit, meaning a 32-bit processor can process 32 digits at once. Don’t confuse this with memory, which measures the total amount of information a computer can remember without needing to use a storage device such as a disk. While the figure for memory will be much bigger, a computer can’t process all of that information at once.

Now see, that description wasn’t too bad, but the question is how does this affect you, the average PC owner? The largest benefit will go to academic institutions and private companies, where large calculations are being performed, huge databases are being accessed, and complex problems are being solved. Everyone that doesn’t fall into that category will see some benefit of using 64 bit processors over 32 bit processors, but not much in today’s marketplace. The AMD Athlon 64-bit processor is completely backward compatible, meaning you can currently use it with 32-bit operating systems and software programs. You will see some benefits by using this setup, but because the programs weren’t written to take advantage of the extra power, they won’t use much of it.

What is the difference between 64 & 32 bit processors explain??

That is a great question and there are so many ways to answer it. When I first heard of a 64-bit processor being released by AMD I thought it was going to bring on a computer revolution, but it more or less has resulted in a whimper. In the future, the battle between 64 bit vs 32 bit processors will inevitably yield the 64 bit processor as the victor, but this transition is going to take some time. The true benefits of this set up don’t come from the amount of bits, but by the improved structure of the 64 bit vs 32 bit processor's older structure. A 64-bit processor is made with more advanced silicon processes, have more transistors, and faster speeds. This is currently where the true benefit of switching to a 64-bit processor lays.

As for 64-bit operating systems and software, many are in the works, but nothing is in final version. Microsoft has released a beta version of Windows XP that takes advantage of the 64 bit technology, but there are still issues. The problem is when you run 32-bit software programs in the environment of a 64-bit operating system. Many programs won’t work properly, such as Adobe Acrobat and Windows Media Player, for example. Another issue is RAM. You really need about 4 GB of RAM to take full advantage of the capabilities offered by a 64-bit processor, while most PC owners have less than 1 GB under their computer’s hood.

So, the question now is should you buy a 64 bit processor now, or wait?

Disadvantages:

You’re currently not able to take full advantage of the technology because the software vendors haven’t made the switch from 32-bit to 64-bit processors.

Most AMD Athlon 64 bit processors are expensive, with prices sure to go down in the future.

Advantages:

Better performance out of a 32-bit operating system.

Probably the last processor you’ll have to buy for many years to come.

You’ll be the talk of all your friends!
As you can see, a sound argument can be made for both cases. You’ll have to determine if the differences will benefit your situation and computing future. I’ll leave the ultimate decision up to you. The software for a computer with a 32-bit processor, including operating systems such as Windows, has to be specifically written to match that processor. The same applies to 64-bit processors. Microsoft produced 32-bit and 64-bit editions of Windows XP and Vista, and will do the same for Windows 7.

There are also some significant mathematical limits to the two different types of processor. A 32-bit processor can only work with a maximum of 4GB of memory, and this is usually limited to 2GB for any one program. A 64-bit processor could theoretically work with 17 million GB of memory. A 64-bit processor can also carry out some tasks twice as quickly. The memory limitations of a 32-bit processor started to become clear with Vista, which uses a large amount of memory and can make it difficult to run multiple programs at once without using up even a full 4GB of memory. Meanwhile, it once seemed impossible that any one program would need more than 2GB of memory, but some modern video games have hit that limit. For these reasons, 64-bit processors will likely start to become much more popular, which will increase the number of consumers interested in buying a 64-bit operating system.

I hope I could make you guys reading my blog a bit clear about the processors and operating systems.

This is a new thing for me I recently learned and wanted to share some of my inputs and is looking for your comments, as I am new to this topic.

Mobile Phone Applications and Settings

Have you ever realized about the potential of the device you carry in your pocket ? May be some of us have realized and some of us have not yet. Yes, I am talking about the mobile phones that you carry for your daily communication with your friends , family and work. Is it just a phone that we carry ? Well its not just a phone its the complete pc these days. A small mobile phone which supports java application is very powerful when it is plugged in with appropriate application.

I guess internet is the most essential part of our life these days without which we don’t seem to communicate to the world. It is not necessary that everyone will have an internet connection every second, where ever they go and when ever they go. That’s where these mobile phones can play vital roll to make us communicate with the digital world.

WAP is short form for The Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) which is an open, secure global specification that empowers mobile users with wireless devices to easily access and interact with information and services instantly.

GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) is a method of enhancing 2G phones to enable them to send and receive data more rapidly. With a GPRS connection, the phone is "always on" and can transfer data immediately, and at higher speeds: typically 32 - 48 kbps. An additional benefit is that data can be transferred at the same time as making a voice call. GPRS is now available with Mero Mobile.

EDGE (Enhanced Data rates for GSM Evolution) or EGPRS provides data transfer rates significantly faster than GPRS. EDGE increases the speed of each timeslot to 48 kbps and allows the use of up to 8 timeslots, giving a maximum data transfer rate of 384 kbps. In places where an EDGE network is not available, GPRS will automatically be used instead. EDGE offers the best that can be achieved with a 2.5G network.

In the context of NEPAL, previously our service provider didn’t facilitated us with the  the EDGE and GPRS services. But today, the service provider are offering us internet and very low cost and really good quality required for a cell phone. Nepal telecom has recently added GPRS service for its prepaid mobile phones and Spicenepal Pvt. Ltd has been doing it from the time of its establishment  and really providing good bandwidth. The point I want to mention here is that, we are not lacking behind for the service now and we have equally good service as the other countries have and we can use it for our benefit.

The confusion arrives, about which application to use and how to use the application. Facebook – The world’s largest social network can be accessed from your mobile phone if you have mobile phone that support web browsing not even a java supported application. All you need to browse is http://m.facebook.com on your cell phone browser and you will be directed to the website which is specially designed for mobile phones to use facebook.  You can share your thoughts, upload and see pictures play games on your phone from any place any time. Many of us use Instant Messaging frequently in our life to communicate and it is very easy to use messengers on your mobile phones as well.If you have a java supported mobile phone you can use cool application like Nimbuzz, Mig33, Morange, Windows Live messenger,Yamee, Y2go, Rocket talk etc are really good application that you can look for.

If you are confused with the configuration of GPRS in Nepal have a look below

General Packet Radio Service offer 'always-on', higher capacity, Internet-based content and packet-based data services. GPRS enables services such as Internet browsing, e-mail on the move, multimedia messages. GPRS offers complete solutions through which you can always stay online and get connected with family, friends.
