SkyDrive (also called Microsoft SkyDrive or Windows Live SkyDrive) is a free-of-charge file hosting service that allows users to upload files to a cloud storage and then access them from a Web browser. It is part of Windows Live range of online services and allows users to keep the files private, share them with contacts, or make the files public. Publicly-shared files do not require a Windows Live ID to access. ( you can get this definition on Wikipedia , it’s no big deal).
The important thing is that to use SkyDrive services you need a live ID or Hotmail ID. So if you don’t have , please do sign up and sign in . Below I have mentioned simple steps for “How to Download Photos or Documents from SkyDrive” .
1. After signing in onto your Live ID or Hotmail , Go to SkyDrive which is at the Top of you webpage .

2.Now you are on SkyDrive . If you want to upload Photos, Videos or Documents then just click Add files/folder and drag photos or videos onto this folder . For Documents you can simply click on create word document icon , Excel icon and others.

3. Now you can Download desired file or folder . Click on the check box of the desired file or folder and then on the right side of the webpage you can seen the download . You can also rename , delete open or arrange according to your needs.

History
It was the time when Microsoft Student Partners (MSP) meetings were running and in one of the meetings in MSP2010 year, they heard something about Imagine Cup. As soon as they heard this , one of the team members started searching on internet and while chatting with friends they came to known that they individually were looking for Imagine Cup on internet to get some ideas and eventually started thinking of adding team members. Then, followed by meetings and chats, a team was registered “Team Nepal”. In the mean time, a national level software competition was organized in which members of team Nepal participated individually. After exploring the ideas of national level software competition Multipoint challenge, the decided to make a project based on Education sector and the application was named Digशिक्षा . They made sure of fulfilling requirements of United Nations Millennium Development Goals. Then they did a lot of research and hard works. They talked to schools in remote school areas in Lalitpur sub-metropolitan city,Nepal. They used to visit 5 to 6 times each school and sometimes even more. They researched, surveyed, implemented and lot more to make their ideas work into action. They completed the project but due to some technical problems they were not selected to compete for imagine cup 2010 Poland.

With the arrival of new team member , team Nepal calls itself now Team Nepal 2.0 .
Team Nepal started again fresh for Imagine Cup 2011. They choose Health sector this time as a challenge to solve world’s toughest problems through power of technology i.e, through their software. Since the team members are of different colleges, they believe different ideas flourished at Team Nepal 2.0. Their software is basically a decision support system through which they tried to solve Health issues at community level. Health is a precious gift to human life as we all know , so they believe this software will be helpful to rural and remote areas .
Imagine Cup 2011
Imagine cup is an annual technology competition organized by Microsoft Corporation. Students around the globe put their heart and soul in this competition. Started nine years ago in 2003 and till now Imagine Cup has been organized in different places of the world like Spain, Brazil, Japan, India, South Korea, France, , Egypt, Poland and this year’s Imagine Cup 2011 in New York, United States.

This year Imagine Cup 2011 theme is “ imagine a world where technology helps solve the toughest problems” . So, keeping this theme in mind, students from around the globe put their effort in developing a solution. A solution that helps in making this world a better place to live, to create , to design , to contribute and all of this through using power of technology.
The competitions in which students can compete are software design, embedded development, game design, digital media, windows phone 7, IT challenge. An important thing to remember is that the software must be designed on .NET Framework using visual studio or lets just say the software must be made using Microsoft Product. Students have to register individually or as a team in www.imaginecup.com in order to compete. A team contain maximum 4 students and a mentor.( http://www.imaginecup.com/faculty-mentors)
I am looking forward to Team Nepal and wish them success who are going to compete in Imagine Cup.
Its not just a software, it’s a solution . So don’t stop dreaming at all, start to imagine.
Microsoft office SharePoint Server (MOSS) – part4
Now install SharePoint Server.
>since we are practicing it on Microsoft Virtual PC , remember that capture the respective ISO image for installation of respective server.
>capture SharePoint Server ISO
>give ISO path of SharePoint Server.

>it asks to again install asp.net 2.0, so again install asp.net 2.0
>repair
>now capture the ISO image of SharePoint Server
>it asks for serial key , give the key.
>Install Basic mode (single server standalone using default settings.

Now , if you go to All Programs (list of programs in start menu)
>SharePoint office server
>open SharePoint configuration wizard
>after clicking next , u will see a message “the configuration succeed.”
>test the configuration from the central admin.
>login from administrator of Active Directory (AD).
>add your site to trusted site list (so that it can be displayed well on your browser)
>Now , central administrator opens
NOTE# take care of the virtual memory , since I am writing this blog based on practice on Microsoft Virtual PC (virtual machine) , it may have issues of virtual memory which might halt the execution.
Now the last and important server to install is exchange server 2003. Exchange server is installed for mail server (email services).
>capture Exchange server ISO image.

>click Exchange server deployment tools.
>deploy the first Exchange server.
>select new exchange 2003.
>from the list of components we need to install only 6,7 and 8.

>after clicking next it processes steps 6 and then step 7 and 8 one-by-one.
>in step 6. click run forest prep now . then click next .

>in step 8. create a new Exchange organization.
>give organization name. next.

>step 8 about to complete.
> Microsoft exchange , Microsoft search , Microsoft Exchange forest prep , Microsoft exchange messaging and collaborating services , Microsoft exchange system and management tools were installed.

Now , earlier after we installed SharePoint server , we opened central administration page.

so this is the main page where the administrator can administer centrally by doing following :
>Administrator can create new document library.

so that file sharing becomes much more easier in that respective institution, school or company.
>can create SharePoint site, under site actions tab.
>can configure incoming email settings
to do this you (administrator) need to enable sites on respective server to receive email. Enable SharePoint directory management service to create distribution groups (for example sub-organizational unit OU)
>can configure outgoing emails.
for example: if domain is test.com then administrator can configure email as administrator@test.com and receive or send email through this email. And others can get email as a@test.com , b@test.com and so on.
Forefront Security can be used as recommended security and protection for MOSS 2007.

Select use a domain user account and fill the details. Username and password and domain is same as we created in Active Directory (AD).

>now choose windows authentication mode

>choose SQL collation (used for compatibility with previous version of SQL servers)

>next
>install

Now , go to all programs and open Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio and test the connection of SQL server by clicking on connect.

This blog will be continued in part 4.
Now , Install Microsoft Office enterprise edition. After that go to control panel>Admin Tools>IIS manager (or type “inetmgr” as RUN command without the quotation marks).
Go to Web Service Extension, if there is not ASP 2.0 then click Add new web Service Extension . then name that extension as Framework 2.0. now add path c:\windows\Microsoft.net\framework\v.2.0\aspnet_isapi.dll .
Now you can see the lists of web service extensions , only few of them are set allow. So, set all web service extensions to allow.
Now when you go to control panel>add or remove programs>add window components>Application Server>IIS>select NNTP and SMTP.
(NNTP and SMTP are needed because to install exchange 2003 server. NNTP=News Network Transfer Protocol and SMTP=Simple Mail Transfer Protocol)
Now it’s time to create active directory.
Type “dcpromo” in RUN command.

select new domain

select new forest

before proceeding you should have configured your IP address by now, If not then type “ncpa.cpl” in run command. for example : set your if your you have set your ip address to 192.168.0.1 then also set DNS to 192.168.0.1
now after selecting New forest , fill up more details like full DNS name, domain net bios name, path to database folder and click next.

lastly the AD(Active Directory) Installation Wizard is completed by selecting install and configure DNS.

click finish and restart.
This Blog will be continued in part 3.
In this part of blog we will discuss about installation part. The necessary software’s needed for MOSS installation are given below:-
- Virtual PC
- Windows Server 2003
- dot net framework 2 and 3
- SQL server 2005
- Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS) 2007
- Exchange Server 2003
- Microsoft Office enterprise edition
Installation
Firstly install virtual pc to install and practice SharePoint server and other servers needed for it.
you can download it by searching on www.bing.com .
After installing virtual PC , open virtual PC and install windows server 2003 on it by capturing iso image through virtual PC or by giving path. Now , install dot net frame 2 and dot net framework 3.
On the edit tab of virtual PC go to settings , then share folder and share a folder needed for installations. put all server and softwares in one folder then share that folder so that you can use it to capture iso image from it.
After installing dot net framework 2 and 3 . now go to control panel . Remember now we are inside virtual PC and we are using windows server 2003 as base Operating System (OS) . go to control panel of windows server 2003 .
control panel>add or remove programs>add window components>Application Server>go to details> mark (click) Asp.net and IIS >click next>Ok
>now it will ask for windows server 2003 path. for this go to CD tab of virtual PC and then go to capture iso image and give the path which is in shared folder.
We need ASP.NET to browse SharePoint sites we make later . After this we can see in C drive that a folder named Inetpub has been created.
This blog will be continued in part2.

On 13th December ,2010 today 2nd install fest was organized by BE Computer 4th semester students and Microsoft Student Partners (Spandan Pradhan and Sabita Baniya) of Acme Engineering College in co-ordination with Microsoft Development Partner (MDP) Nepal
.
The program started at 11:30 am as soon as faculty members came in. The faculty members present at the program were out respected principle sir Er.Basanta Marhatta, Vice-Principal sir Pradeep Neupane , Niranjan Sharma sir and D.HOD mam Archana Shrestha. Community Lead sir Pradeep Kandel from Microsoft (MDP) Nepal was present there to co-ordinate in the program. Around 60 students from first semester of computer, electronics and civil department attended the event where presentation was going on and 25 students installed windows 7 .
I as an Master of Ceremony (MC) called respected principle sir Er. Basanta Marhatta, Vice-Principal sir Pradeep Neupane , and D.HOD mam Archana Shrestha to give a welcome speech to first year students. Each of them really and positively appreciated we(BE Computer 4th semester students ) for organizing this 2nd install fest event.
Then I started the event formally with my presentation on Seven Wonders of Windows 7 with slides and demos simultaneously. Each wonder was unique in its own way because almost no one tried these wonders before . I hope I inspired and aspired each students of 1st semester to come closer to windows 7 gradually.

Then Community Lead sir Pradeep Kandel from Microsoft (MDP) Nepal gave his presentation as overview of Microsoft. His presentation topics included MSP program, ELMS , AutoCollage, and other Microsoft programs, products, and services. it was about one and a half hour presentation but the audience (1st semester students) were so patiently listening, they were so keen to collect the waves of technical knowledge that no one latched the watch. The session was so interactive that 6 students got prizes for the interaction with the presenter.
Also, the install fest of windows 7 was going simultaneously (side-by-side) in which the 22 volunteers of BE Computer 4th semester were busy with the installation works. We (BE Computer 4th semester students ) also gave free software's (available resources) after installation of windows 7. The available resources we gave comprised of DOS box for Turbo C, Borland C++, dream scene and Microsoft Security Essentials (antivirus).
The event finished at 2:30pm sharp and shortly after that ELMS accounts for 1st semester students were created at the presentation venue.
Lastly I would like to thank HOD,D.HOD, principal, Vice-principal and other faculties for their presence to make this event meaningful. I would also like to thank community lead Pradeep Kandel from Microsoft (MDP) Nepal for their co-ordination and consent for the event.
conclusions:
- Bigger and better than before i.e, 1st install fest.
- I would like to call this event meaningful rather than successful.
- The goals and objectives with which the 2nd install fest was organized completed meaningfully (approx. 85% from my perspective)
- the event started 30 minutes late but completed at exact stated time.
- Then methods used to install Windows 7 were through bootable DVD and bootable flash drive, through which we organizers knew the problems likely to occur during installation and also knew “How to boot windows 7 from flash drive “ and taught others too.
Following are the steps to extract serial key from an ELMS account:-

“Time and Tide waits for none
But I always know its value, when its gone”
16th September, 2010 was the day our "4th MSP meeting" was held.
Like they say "big things come in small package" same goes for the MSP
meetings. I don't know why I can't afford to miss these meetings, there's
always something new in every meeting.
Time Management (Allen sir)
This topic was striking in my mind (other MSP's too) when I heard about
Allen sir would be presenting it. This was what every students needed,
because we are so busy in our day-to-day life that we don't even have time to
look at our watch. Basically what i understood was, it’s about managing life
with respect to time. You don't have to go far to understand time management, just look closely at your watch. What do you
see???? Before you jump to any answers, let me explain.
Compass and the clock are the two most important part of a watch. Take
clock as your the ultimate goal(aim) of your life , its what you actually
want to be. In the other hand , compass is the direction. So, compass and
clock can be related as nail and flesh, they are interconnected. You cant reach
the clock if your compass is not right Your current activities will drive
you in the direction you are moving..
Sharpen your saw
The next thing that caught my attention was "sharpening your saw".
Most of students don't think about some questions like what am I doing? What do
I want from life? . Its time , step back and think what i want to do with my life?
Should I follow my heart or brains? i would say don't go with the " go
with the flow" attitude, take time to sharpen your saw, follow what you
actually want o do. I think the movie “3 idiots " give us the basic idea about
sharpening the saw, like Farhan Qureshi did in that movie.
Time Matrix
Put your life in time matrix. For that what you need to do is:
Divide your life into four quadrants.
In the first quadrant (Q1), Urgent and Important
In the second (Q2), Important - Not Urgent
In the third quadrant (Q3), Urgent - Not Important
In the fourth quadrant (Q4), Not Urgent - Not Important
Now put your day-to-day activities and priorities in these Quadrants. Allen
sit told in the presentation that Q1= Necessity, Q2 = Leadership and effectiveness,
Q3 = Deception and Q4 = Waste and access which is in my view very much
true. So choose your quadrant and plan your life from today because planning is
the best way to get results.
Start Planning
The best way to plan is jot-it-down (write it). Don't plan about a year but
rather break it down into monthly, or weekly or daily. It might be 30 minutes a
week or 3 minutes a day. There can be lot of excuses not to write but it’s
just a habit and no one is born with habits and new good habits can be
made.
4th MSP meeting (conducted by Pradip Kandel
sir)
A lot of things were discussed in this session. It was more interactive
because we had one to one discussion with anyone in the room. I got
informations about upcoming events and install fests. Locus was the event
organized by IOE pulchowk and Drishti by KEC kalimati , these two were the
nearing events about which we discussed the ways to conduct it.
Books
MCSE in a nutshell was the books given to MSP's to read and write a blog on
it. Two books were distributed in which I got one and another Dicchya
Shakya(MSP2011, IOE pulchowk) . I was more than happy to get this book because
it was my ladder which could help to get one step closer to MCSE
certifications. This is the second book I got on Server , the first one was Windows Server 2008 which I
got in MSP SummIT 2010 as a prize.
Conclusion: To conclude this blog I would say " prioritize your
priority and thus manage your time:
“I learn to share
I learn to care
I am an MSP
And I am proud to be.”
An event “MSP SummIT 2010” was organized by MDP Nepal in Hotel Space Mountain at Nagarkot. It was a two day event . Different sessions were run by different presenters in a unique and interactive way. There was no such thing as main attraction, coz every second was attraction and every idea was innovation. Nobody (esp. msp 2011) knew what was going on, coz nothing was predefined to us , every second was a surprise to us. All we could say was “what” , “hey!”, “but” , “oh! Ok” . “cool” , “great” , “wow” .
converting caterpillars to butterflies
It was the first session of day 1 , as we got into the hall . Allen sir welcomed us and told us various brain storming things . The intro part was cool , I jot down some of his words like “It starts with one…” and “I love the word challenge”. Then we went on to some serious topics(by serious I meant attentive part) like pallete of learning tools by Microsoft (office, autollarge,Photosynth, bing etc) , multipoint power point, live@edu, worldwide telescope, songsmith, kodu game lab etc. Project NATAL was cool of all. Then, a funny *** interesting game was played in which each individual was given a blue piece of paper with half name of Microsoft products or programs written. We had find the other part of that product and introduce each other with explaining 3 key points each of product and partner. I enjoyed a lot in this game, and I think everyone did.
Certifications
Ravi Chandra Koirala sir showed his presenation skills in this session. Allen sir’s one quote “ther’s only two kind of people for me, developer and ITpro” was well illustrated by ravi sir. I knew well about the certification path of ITpro courses. Why get certified was the question raised in that session. Well , the answer was in that presentation.
How team work is important?
At 2:45 pm , all msp’s 2010 and 2011 mixed were divided into 8 groups. All were given a product or program to choose and act upon. We as group 7 choose msp program as our topic. Our team members included junu(kist),gulshan(kec), ajit Mishra(cit) , me and 3other msp’s . 15 minutes were allocated 4 preparation and 3 minutes for presentation. Dipendra sir was our mentor, who contributed the basic theme. Then we all contributed our brains, as it was team work. I and junu did the jingle part which I wrote in the beginning of this blog, gulshan’s social networking idea of promotion was cool in which I was “what’s on ur mind” and “like” character.
Microsoft version of sajha sawal with Rajendra Khetan
The fifth session was “discussion with rajendra khetan. As laxmi mittal is to India, rajendra khetan is to Nepal for me. Without him no liquor would gain popularity in Nepal, and also as sabhasad he gains a plus point in being youth icon.
“टुलनात्मक् र पेरिसपर्धात्मक छमता सफल मान्छे को गुण हो”
– rajendra khetan
I asked him a question about lacking entrepreneurship in youths , rights for youths in new constitution and old education system. Not much satisfying but true answer he gave. The session was so interactive that it went on for one and a half hour . national TV nepal1 was recording the youth icon’s session.
“सरकार बुढा हरुको , सम्भिधान् युवा हरुको”
-Rajendra khetan
I was so shocked to hear that he hasn’t even completed his B.com 1st year yet he is a business tycoon. His story of success provoked all of us to do something for our country.
Worldwide telescope
Prashant Dhewaju sir showed us the magic of worldwide telescope . Around 8 p.m (may be) the presentation started , no one had the time to watch the watch because it was so interesting .
www.worldwidetelescope.org
The Social Network Lever
Allen sir showed in this presentation how we can use social networking sites to be connected and create awareness. We knew that a MSP page was created by Microsoft Corp. for MSP's.
Also, we knew about Students lounge, channel 8 and channel 9 and MSP tweet.
http://www.msstudentlounge.com/
Then, again it was drama time because it was 1 am and we wee feeling little sleepy , so to engage us i think this idea was made. So, again we all were divided into 4 teams. Each team with one concept of relating Microsoft technology with day-to-day life. I was in group 1 and our topic was family safety which is a service included from Windows Vista onwards. I had a g8 time because it was so interactive that everybody in the group knew each other so fast. And it happened with each group so no one was left unnoticed or inactive.
The last line i said was "parent control and one care family safety makes family safety better." our mentor were Gandip sir and dipendra sir, two brainy people in one group. So the next day had already started.
SALSA DANCE
As soon as i heard now it's salsa time , my feets began to move. The tables were put aside to make space for dance venue. The dance teacher taught very well . After some steps , we had to choose a partner for dance, Surakshya Nepal accompanied me. And others too were dancing with the beats. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8...and repeat. Allen sir too was trying to dance, i guess so. Lastly at the end , dance teachers(sir and mam) gave a powerful dance performance that everyone was stunned.
Then an agreement was made to sleep 4 hours, and gather at the conference hall at 8 am. But i hardly slept 1 hour and at 5 am i along with other msp's went to see tower sunrise. On the way i captured Nagarkot in the lenses as far as possible. After some funny moments we reached conference hall.
DAY 2
The second day started with a quick review of day 1. Today was an important day because today faculty member also came from respective college. I and sabita received MSP sash from our Faculty teacher Trailokya Raj Ojha . Also Microsoft Wall was handed over to us at the same time. I felt so proud because i received the MSP title from my faculty teacher and past MSP of 2010 Bikash Acharya.
Bingo time
I won second row while playing bingo , which too was interesting in the two day event. I got a chance to choose my prize from the bunch of prizes( i.e., t-shirts, caps, watches etc) and i choose book of Windows Server 2008 because books are humans best friends.
Codeplex
The next session was codeplex which was fully informative to all students where we talked about snippet , pptplex(add on), Microsoft and open source. I knew that snippet means a small part of whole large code and also i knew that Microsoft today is the biggest open source provider in world. For those who don't know about codeplex, codeplex is a Microsoft's open source hosting website.
www.codeplex.com
Terai TV
Mr. Janak of terai TV showed us some light on media house. i was shocked to hear that 32 TV channels are registered and 10 are already on air. Nothing is impossible, isn't it?
Windows Intune
Gandip Khaling sir was the presenter on Windows Intune.
NCELL
NCELL also gave a service presentation on the offers they were providing to microsoft as corporate service with minimum cost. Also i was happy to hear that NCELL uses Microsoft's Operating System.
Great event= solid promotion+good infrastructure+great content+super speaker
These are the secret ingredient of great event shared by Allen sir.
MTA
I enjoyed Ravi sir's presentation on MTA(Microsoft Technology Associate) which was very informative.
MSP of the year 2010
How can i forget "Samant Manandhar" , the MSP of the year 2010 . he truly deserves it because it was all his hard work and passion that was evaluated.
Overall , I want to conclude this blog saying " i wish summit to be organized every month". haha,
I will never forget summit.
On
sunday 18th july an orientation programme was held for selected
MSP's(
Microsoft Student Partners) 2011. Alen sir gave the introduction
(about an hour) , then next session was run by pradeep kandel sir
(community lead MDP nepal). He gave us a lot of information on how
actually this MSP thing works. I knew about the website totally
dedicated to MSP's
www.student-partners.com and each MSP gets a 25GB storage with the account created. A brief information was given on two comunity portals of nepal,
www.technetnepal.com and
www.msdnnepal.net .
www.msdnnepal.net is for developers where as
www.technetnepal.net
is for ITpros . Every student can take benifit from either of these
portals or both, according to their interests , by creating an account
and posting queries, answering queries, reading blogs etc.
As
per information received , allen sir won't be the community lead as
previous years. Pradeep kandel sir will be the new community lead. He
will be guiding us MSp's. An interesting fact about pradeep sir is that he is a past MSP.
It
was a gr8 experience, i learnt a lot of new n cool stuffs which i will
be sharing and delivering in my college. The find your friend part was
in the beginning was interesting, meeting new friends from different
colleges with one goal community development.
Phone tree concept was supercool.
